Oh, I like those. I love how the variable light playing on the mountains and water increases the drama and depth, especially in the first two. They are both artistic and effective at conveying a sense of place. Congratulations!

All in all I was very pleased with how the camera (Canon 450D), lens (sigma 10-20 @F/11) Tufuse Pro and PTAssembler performed.

Just curious about your workflow here. It sounds like you ran some images through TuFuse Pro first and then ran the results through PTAssembler for stitching? I'm still trying to get the hang of focus stacking, HDR, and panos. I can't seem to get great results with all three consistently, only one or two of the three at a time... I've not played much with TuFuse Pro yet. Just wondered how you fit it into your workflow... Those images are great!

Thanks Hans, I do use a tripod with the nodal ninja panoramic head.

Your panos are great, I suppose I use tufuse to extend the dynamic range a little so that the sky and land have a better exposure and because I haven't quite got the hang of the 450D's exposure meter

Pali Lookout

I was just screwing around with the new version of PTGui (v8.0) to see what it could do and I made this... I tried stitching this about 4-5 years ago and it never came out right. I guess as technology gets better, things work nicer Anyway, this is from the Pali Lookout on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It used to take me about 20 minutes from my old house to get there... For some reason the saturation in the jpeg version is a lot more than in the PSD version. I'm not going to figure it out, ya'll can look at it as is. Anyway, this is five images handheld. Taken in the landscape position before I knew to do it in portrait. I think this is one of the very first panos I tried to make. Enjoy...

Darv,

I love the top one. Beautiful image and the colours are amazing.

I have been too busy for some time but now I see what I have been missing.

It seems that stacking images with different exposures has become more common good. Last time I looked, I was happy to show a panorama of several images, but now they have to be stacked also

I really have to look into this TuFuse. I assume the images must be taken with a tripod when you want to use it?

RE: DPI question

That seem to be probable causes...

The reason I noticed it was because I usually add a bottom text to my panorama's. I do this in Photoshop and when the DPI was 72 the text I added at the bottom always had to be scaled. Text size 72 was very, very tiny.

Now I can use text size 72 or even smaller and then the text is still large enough.

This is the main reason I got puzzled...

Nice shots. I really like seeing the side show, not just the main attraction! I also appreciate the descriptions of the hike and terrain - nothing quite like being on the stone, seeing it roll down away from you.

It sure is!!! I'm working on three more, including a 360 quicktime tour of a room. I'm still trying to figure out how to stitch a 360 though.

I can see I'm going to need a new computer if I start doing this alot. I tried the same scene on a quad core video editing workstation that I built recently for a friend and it was ~16x faster than my aging Pentium 4!

I got the above 34x20" print on canvas with a luster finish from epingo.com the other day. All I can say is W-O-W!!! Everyone I've shown it to has been amazed. I'd like to find a way to make a living with this since I love photography anyway and it would be a niche market up here in Maine.

Just a couple of shots taken last weekend. The first one is 2 portrait images stitched horizontally (2 exposures for each of the 2 final images). I like adjusting the WB of the RAW photo to have a yellowish tint before running it through tufuse, it really brings out something in sunset/sunrise images.

The second is a 3 across 2 up pano made of 6 final tufused images. Each one of the 6 is made up of 4 exposures, so 24 were used in total. I am quite pleased with the outcome as I have never tried a pano/tufuse with so many images.

My guess is one of the following:

1. Whatever program you were using was setting the XResolution/YResolution tags at 72. The program you are now using sets those tags at 300. Note that different versions of the same program may behave differently.

2. Whatever program you were using to view files showed "72" when the XResolution and/or YResolution tags are absent from the file. Whatever program you are now using shows "300" when those tags are absent from the file.

3. Some combination of 1 and 2.
